SunRoof Transforms the Future: Energy from SunRoof's grey roofs will power the Monolit estate near Gdańsk

SunRoof, a leader in solar energy innovation, is revolutionising the future of sustainable architecture with its first grey solar roofs. These unique roofs have been installed in the Monolit single-family housing estate near Gdańsk, Poland. Here, the fusion of technology, world-class design and environmental protection becomes a reality.

Roofs with solar power

A pioneering investment symbolising a new era in green construction is the avant-garde Monolit estate in Straszyn near Gdańsk. It comprises eight residences with distinctive architecture, inspired by the huge erratic boulders left behind by the ice age, known as monoliths. In line with architect Paweł Lis’s vision, the building forms are topped with stone roofs integrated with photovoltaic modules in the colour of natural stone. They not only provide a cohesive form and unique character but also transform the houses into sources of clean electrical energy.

I designed the Monolit estate as a unique place that attracts with innovative architecture and simultaneously relies on environmentally protective solutions. A place that creates a functional space whilst being welcoming to its residents. SunRoof gave me the opportunity to realise my vision in a way that seemed unattainable not long ago,

says Paweł Lis, the architect and designer of the Monolit estate.

This is SunRoof’s first project using grey photovoltaic modules. The roofs were specifically designed and crafted for the Monolit estate to align with its innovative and eco-friendly concept.

We’ve proven that the SunRoof system is suitable for every architectural style and doesn’t impose design limitations. We love challenges and are eager to tackle more bespoke investments,

says Martyn Szczepankowski, Co-founder and Head of CEE at SunRoof.

Sustainable and comfortable lifestyle

The investor’s expectation was to create an estate combining originality with smart technologies, offering a comfortable and sustainable lifestyle. The green electricity produced by the solar roofs will power the electrical devices in the houses, and each building will be equipped with a private charging station, allowing residents to utilise renewable energy to power their vehicles.

We are looking towards the future, focusing on state-of-the-art technical solutions whilst satisfying the highest energy standards. Our real goal is to adopt solutions in harmony with nature. We achieved this, in part, through the use of solar energy and the SunRoof photovoltaic roof technology. Being in harmony with nature also reflects our philosophy of using natural materials, leveraging the natural terrain, and having interior functionality influenced by sunlight and local flora. The idea of maximum symbiosis with nature guarantees us a better life,

says Piotr Dorozik, CEO of Herzinvest.

Architects’ and clients’ needs dictate the continuous evolution of SunRoof’s offerings. The 2-in-1 solar roof technology is intended to aid in building future homes, estates and cities, where solar energy is an integral part of residents’ daily lives,

says Martyn Szczepankowski.

Solar roofs are already finding a broad range of applications – from single-family houses to commercial buildings and public utility facilities. The ability to produce a SunRoof in any colour chosen by the investor not only constitutes a competitive advantage for the company but also assists in introducing modern photovoltaic technologies into historical buildings.
