SunRoof Supports the Construction of a Home for Teenage Mothers with the Po DRUGIE Foundation and the UNAWEZA Foundation

SunRoof, a leading solar energy company, is supporting the construction of a unique home for self-reliant mothers. This initiative, spearheaded by the po DRUGIE Foundation, is under the patronage of the UNAWEZA Foundation, led by Martyna Wojciechowska. Young mothers and their children will find a safe haven and a chance for a better life under the solar roof of SunRoof, a key partner in this project.

In the Ursynów district of Warsaw, the po DRUGIE Foundation, in collaboration with the UNAWEZA Foundation, is building a home for teenage and self-reliant mothers and their children. This facility will provide young mothers with the necessary support to embrace the most important and challenging role in life – motherhood. They will gain not only housing but also opportunities for learning, personal development, and maturation.

This single-family home will accommodate six mothers and their young children. It is designed for young women striving for independence, including former foster care residents, re-socialization facility residents, or those in difficult life situations and without a stable home. Here, they will have access to assistance from psychologists, lawyers, and career advisors.

A Home Powered by Good Energy

The house is designed as a sustainable building, utilizing renewable energy sources and materials with a low carbon footprint. The collaboration of SunRoof, a pioneer in the solar energy market, with the po DRUGIE Foundation and the UNAWEZA Foundation, aims to create an ecological and energy-efficient environment. Innovative solar roof technology will enable the house to generate its own clean energy, creating a beautiful, comfortable, and friendly space for young mothers and their children.

We are incredibly proud that SunRoof can be a partner in creating this much-needed haven. The commitment to securing a safe and independent future is deeply ingrained in our DNA. We believe that through this project, we can offer not only practical support but also provide young mothers with the energy and inspiration to construct a new, hopeful life,

says Martyn Szczepankowski, Co-founder and Head of CEE SunRoof.

SunRoof’s involvement in this initiative is particularly meaningful, as they share core values with the po DRUGIE Foundation and the UNAWEZA Foundation, and its founder Martyna Wojciechowska. These values include aiding those in need, commitment to climate issues, and the belief in the transformative power of changing one person’s life, which can impact the entire world.

For over twelve years, our organization has been supporting youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. We are committed to ensuring that young people in Poland have access to solutions tailored to their age. While there are homes for single mothers in Poland, we focus on women who have just reached adulthood and require special assistance. We are convinced that our home will fill this important gap,

says Agnieszka Sikora, president of the po DRUGIE Foundation.

The building’s design maximizes the use of sunlight throughout the day. The solar roof’s surface area (259.2 sqm) and power capacity (33.67 kWp) are tailored to the needs of the future residents, considering the high electricity demand for childcare and appliance use. The energy generated by SunRoof will also be used for heating the building, significantly reducing its maintenance costs.

The first young mothers with their children are expected to move into this extraordinary home next year.
