Second edition of the International Competition for Architects: Design of the Future. Best SunRoof Project 2021

Second edition of the International Competition for Architects: Design of the Future. Best SunRoof Project 2021

Second edition of the International Architectural Competition has started: Design of the Future. Best SunRoof Project 2021, which involves designing a vision of the house or carport of the future with a SunRoof solar roof using BIMobject and the Grenton Smart Home System. Honorary patronage over the competition has been taken by the Embassy of Sweden in Poland. The competition form is available on contest.sunroof.se

In this year’s competition for professional architects and students, SunRoof, an international startup that develops 2-in-1 solar roofs and carports as well as technology for smart energy management, promotes sustainable construction using advanced smart home systems. The competition with prizes totalling EUR 7,000 is open to all designers who demonstrate the direction of modern architecture. An additional prize is waiting for architecture students: a paid internship at SunRoof in Poland or Sweden.

Design of the Future means …?

We are at a turning point in the industry – changes are taking place that will set architectural trends for years to come. Architects surprise us with their innovative ideas. They choose unprecedented forms and ecological solutions that place environmental protection, beauty and economy on an equal footing. The House of the Future is an intelligent, zero-energy house. A house with the 2-in-1 SunRoof photovoltaic roof generates electricity through solar energy. Moreover, it looks modern and is fully functional as a roof. It is also a home equipped with a smart home system that improves optimum use of free “green” electricity and improves living comfort.

This time, the competitors can design either a house of the future or a solar carport. In order to promote solar-powered mobility, it is important to facilitate access to charging stations for electric or hybrid cars, which will correspond perfectly to the vision of architecture harmonious with nature and distinguished by its original design.

While most things should be done step by step, the solar roof and carport are two unique, immediate steps to a greener future. New technologies offer greater opportunities for sustainable design, while also proposing innovative design. That’s why I encourage all architects to explore eco-friendly solutions to inspire themselves and others to choose good energy,

says Lech Kaniuk, Co-founder and CEO of SunRoof.

Do you imagine future life and our households without smart living behaviours? I believe you do not. That’s why Grenton focuses its attention on the way how we plan and design our houses,

says Bartłomiej Gierszyn, Head of Marketing in Grenton.

International scale

Honorary patronage over the competition has been taken by the Embassy of Sweden in Poland. SunRoof has its roots in Sweden, and Scandinavia supports Poland’s energy transformation, which is why this international project helps to more effectively implement ideas that have an impact on achieving energy neutrality.

The need to promote renewable energy sources as a shared responsibility for our planet is also recognised by Tengbom, one of the oldest architectural offices in Scandinavia and a partner of the competition.

Local renewable energy production is a necessity for mitigating increasing climate challenge that our cities and communities are facing today. If we are to build new buildings today, we need to make sure that they compensate for the climate impact that they create. Integrated solar energy generation is an important part of the solution. I hope that this competition will both inspire architects to take the challenge and create beautiful houses and carports of the future and contribute to rising awareness and knowledge about the solar technology,

says Ivana Kildsgaard, Partner & Director of Sustainability and Quality at Tengbom.

Competition applications can be sent to contest.sunroof.se by 20 January 2022.
